Oraciones subordinadas. Parte 3.

  • CLAUSES OF CAUSE: SUBORDINADAS CAUSALES.

- Van introducidas por:

a) Because, que se emplea cuando contestamos a una pregunta:
Ejplo: Why is the baby crying? Because he is ill.

b) Cuando la causa está clara o ya se conoce de antemano, es más frecuente utilizar as o since.
Ejplo: As/Since you cook, you could make a chocolate cake for us (Como/ Ya que sabes cocinar, podrías hacernos un pastel de chocolate).

c) La causa y la consecuencia se pueden expresar con because y so.
Ejplo: I put on my coat because I was cold (Me puse el abrigo porque tenía frío)
I was cold, so I put on my coat (Tenía frío, así que me puse el abrigo).

  • CLAUSES OF RESULT: SUBORDINADAS CONSECUTIVAS.

- Se forman con las siguientes estructuras:

a) Such a/ an + adjetivo + sustantivo contable/ incontable en singular +(that)+oración principal
Ejplo: Mary is such a popular person (that) everybody wants to speak to her (Mary es una persona tan popular que todo el mundo quiere hablar con ella)
Ejplo: It was such a sour wine (that) we didn´t drink it (Era un vino tan agrio que no nos lo bebimos)

b) Such + adjetivo + sustantivo contable en plural + (that) + oración principal
Ejplo: We saw such cheap jeans in the shop (that) we bought three pairs (Vimos en la tienda unos vaqueros tan baratos que compramos tres pares)

c) So + adjetivo o adverbio + (that) + oración principal
Ejplo:He is walking so slowly (that) he might miss the train (Camina tan despacio que puede perder el tren)

d) So much (+ sustantivo incontable)/ so many (+ sustantivo contable en plural)
Ejplo: He ate so much (that) he had a stomachache (Comió tanto que tuvo dolor de estómago)
He ate so many chips (that) he had a stomachache.

A) Look at the pictures and answer the questions:

2.- What do they see?
3.- Where do they race to?
4.- Which bird flies faster?
5.- What does it reach?
6.- What does the bird eat and how does it feel?
7.- What happens in picture 3? Are the two birds pleased?
8.- Why does the bird feel sick?
9.- Is the bird greedy?
10.- What happens in picture 4?

B) Make your composition answering the questions with long answers and using full stops all the time. Then you will have your composition ready.
