Listening 1º Bto pg. 59

Female Presenter: Last week we asked you to suggest your "Green Heroes of the Year". We had hard work choosing our favourites. Now we would like YOU to vote for a winner.
Male Presenter: "Green Hero" number one is Madhav Nirmit. M. has been a tiger conservationist since he was ten. Now twenty, he works for an Indian charity called "Children4 Tigers."
Madhav: Some people are scared of tigers, but not me. If you respect animals. you'll stay safe. We are hunting tigers, destroying their homes...it´s so sad. When I was a little boy, I donated all my pocket money to a tiger charity. My parents were generous, but I needed even more money, so I did babysitting, I washed cars... I worked very hard, and I raised thousands of rupees. The media loved the story. I gave the money to "Children4Tigers", which teaches children about tiger conservation in a fun way! Now I'm retraining. I'm going to be a wild animal vet, and protect tigers in a different way. Wherever it takes me, I won't ever stop working to save our tigers, that's for sure!
PM: Phone 879098001 to vote for M.
PF: Hero number 2 is Lydia Clemente from the "City Eden Project". Lydia joined the American charity when she was 18.
Lydia: As kids growing up in the Bronx, me and my friends thought environmentalism was just for rich people not for people like us, living in ugly city blocks. But later on, I was inspired by Barack Obama. I learned that everyone can make a difference. I left my job at the diner, and I decided to retrain as a city gardener. I have planted a thousand trees and plants in some of the poorest, dirtiest parts of the city, and next year I'm going to plant a thousand more. I want to visit different cities and inspire other young people to help make their neighbourhoods greener. Because this is everyone's planet, whatever your race or your background.
PF: Phone 879098002 to vote for Lydia.
PM: Hero number 3 is Amit Baral. Ever since Sir Edmung Hillary climbed Everest in 1953, climbers have left their litter there. Amit is cleaning it up!
Amit: I started collecting litter at the bottom when I was a teenager-now I go right to the top. Yes, it's dangerous. I have climbed for years, and I'm frightened every time. It's what keeps me alive! People do die, and we have to pick up their bodies, too. That's very sad, and sometimes I have wanted to get a nice, safe job instead. But something always calls me back. I think it's the voice of the mountain. My parents were wealthy farmers. They gave me money to go to university, but I returned it. Why do I need qualifications when I can study nature? I will do this work until I get too old. I have never had a holiday. Why leave Everest, when it's the most beautiful place on earth? I hope that people will look after it when I'm gone.
PM: Phone 879098003 to vote for Amit.
