Verbs + gerund /
infinitive.
El gerundio: Es
la forma verbal terminada en –ing,
que funciona como sustantivo en los siguientes casos:

Como el sujeto de la oración cuando se habla de
acciones o hechos en general.
Visiting London was an amazing
experience .
- Como complemento directo de algunos verbos: finish, enjoy, avoid, miss, recommend, suggest, imagine, regret, keep, mind. She enjoys eating food from different countries.

Detrás
de las preposiciones: He is thinking
about learning German.

Detrás
de algunas expresiones: can’t stand,
feel like, don’t mind, it`s no use, look forward to
I don’ t mind walking to work.
El infinitivo: es
la forma verbal precedida de to y se
emplea en estos casos:

Detrás
de los verbos decide, want, promise,
hope, pretend, refuse, offer, agree, seem, appear, choose, expect, learn, plan,
visit, allow.
Paul has promised to take his dog to
the vet.
They decided not to take part in the experiment.

Detrás de los adjetivos easy, happy, sad, lucky, hard, nice.
I’m happy to volunteer in the Red
Cross.
Verbos seguidos de
gerundio e infinitivo.
Los verbos like, love,
hate, prefer, begin, start, continue pueden ir seguidos de gerundio o de
infinitivo sin que su significado varíe.
They like going / to go to summer
camps.
En cambio, otros no significan lo mismo si llevan detrás un
gerundio o un infinitivo:

Remember
+ gerundio significa recordar haber hecho algo en el pasado
I remember eating at that restaurant
when I was in Paris.

Remember
+ infinitivo significa acordarse de hacer algo:
She remembered to buy the
ingredients for the cake.

Forget +
gerundio se emplea en frases negativas
para indicar la imposibilidad de olvidar algo ocurrido en el pasado: Tim
will never forget meetig his favourite singer.

Forget + infinitivo significa olvidarse de hacer algo: I forgot to buy the tickets for the
concert.
Stop + gerundio significa
dejar de hacer algo, un hábito: She
stopped smoking a year ago.

Stop + infinitivo
significa parar una acción para hacer otra cosa:
They didn’t stop to have lunch on
their way home
Try + gerundio significa "experimentar": I tried eating chocolate ants and it was disgusting.
Try + infinitivo significa "hacer un esfuerzo": Try to run half a kilometre more.

A) Rephrasing on the gerund
1. Robert didn't want to taste Kate's cake. Robert didn't feel like .............. Kate's cake.
2. Amy didn't listen to music. She watched TV. Instead of ..........................................
3. Lisa doesn't like to wear dresses. She usually wears jeans. Lisa prefers......... jeans, not dresses.

B) Complete the sentences with one of these infinitives: call, learn, wear, clean, find.

3. Mike stopped taking his medicine.

5. I will never forget watching the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
6. I won't forget to watch the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
a. I saw the opening ceremony.
