New structures:
A) Present Perfect + for / since in personal and impersonal constructions:
- I haven't seen him for a long time/for years/ages.
It's a long time / It's years since I last saw him.
- It hasn't rained since February.
It hasn't rained for three months.
- I haven't seen him for three months.
I haven't seen him since February.
B) Present Perfect + such
- I have never paid such a high price.(superlative + present perfect)
It's the highest price I have ever paid
- It's the longest journey I have ever made.
I have never made such a long journey.
C) On + possessive adjective + own (by + reflexive pronoun)
- He prefers to work on his own.
He prefers to work by himself.
D) Comparisons: Change as .... as to more/ -er...than and viceversa.
- She is not as intelligent as her sister.(noun)
Her sister is more intelligent than she is. (pronoun and auxiliary verb)
- My friend ran faster than I did.
I didn't run as fast as my friend.
E) too / enough
- This coffee is too cold to drink (too + adjective)
This coffee isn't hot enough to drink ( adjective + enough )
F) Question Tags.
- He likes action films, doesn't he?
- Your brother didn't travel yesterday, did he?
G) Let's ... (suggest)
- Let's go to the cinema.
I suggest(ed) going to the cinema.
I suggest that we go to the cinema.
H) prefer // would rather
- I prefer drinking tea to coffee.
I would rather drink tea than coffee (general preferences)
I) I wonder.
- Did he meet her at the cinema?
I wonder if he met her at the cinema.
